Luxury Egypt Tours

Every Egypt tour sees the same pyramids and temples. What separates luxury Egypt tours is how you meet them: a private Egyptologist, a 5-star Nile ship or a dahabiya under sail, a flight instead of a 9-hour night train. Each listing here tells you exactly what the price changes, so check the guide, the ship, the flights and the cancellation terms before you pay.

Luxury Egypt tours run from $1,750 for a 5-day dahabiya cruise and $1,800 for an 8-day private tour with flights to $6,527 for 12 days with Abu Simbel. The pick costs $1,800 for 8 private days with 3 nights on a 5-star deluxe ship and entrance fees included. A shared 4-day cruise with Abu Simbel starts at $690.

How to Choose a Luxury Egypt Tour

A luxury price is not one thing. It is a bundle of checkable features, and this section reads them off each listing one by one. A day-by-day plan for 7, 10 and 14 days is on the Egypt itinerary.

Pick Your Length First

Length is the clearest split in the catalog. Three days covers Cairo and Giza only, four to five days is a Nile cruise on its own, seven to eight days joins Cairo to a full cruise, and nine to twelve days adds Abu Simbel, Alexandria, Hurghada or Fayoum. Prices below are the catalog's lowest adult rates per person.

A short trip keeps the cost down but adds flights you book yourself, while the longest tours fold every domestic move into the price.

The Guide: Private Egyptologist or Shared Group

Most tours here list a private Egyptologist, and the 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour states it outright: everything private, no bus groups or shopping stops. Two listings run shared groups instead. The 9-Day Egypt Sleeper Train Tour carries an escorting Egyptologist for up to 18 travelers, and the 4-Day Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel is a small-group cruise for up to 18 with an Egyptologist guide and 7:10 AM pickup in Luxor.

A private guide costs more but sets your pace at Karnak and the Valley of the Kings. A shared group is where the lowest prices live.

Hotels and Ships, Read From the Records

Hotel level is only a feature where the listing says so. The 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour and the 10-Day Ultimate Egypt Nile Cruise both list 5-star hotels, though neither names them. The 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour is the strongest written record: 4 nights in a 5-star deluxe Cairo hotel and 3 nights on a 5-star deluxe Nile cruise. Cruise-only, the 5-Day Ultra Deluxe Nile Cruise names ships in its ultra deluxe option, May Fair, Minerva, Sonesta, Esplanade or Concerto 2. The 5-Day Dahabiya Nile Cruise puts you 4 nights on a 5-star dahabiya, and the 4-Day Luxury Dahabiya Cruise is 3 nights on a traditional dahabiya.

Two listings leave the hotel out of the price entirely. On the 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour the Cairo hotel costs extra, and the 3-Day Private Cairo Pyramids Tour is a day-tour package with no accommodation.

Getting Between Cairo and the South

Flights and trains are the other big price line. A Cairo to Aswan flight takes about 1 h 25 min in the air, roughly 3 h 48 m door to door. The sleeper train leaves Giza at 20:00 or 20:30 and takes about 9 hours to Luxor and 12 to Aswan on one timetable, though a train listing gives 10 h 45 m to Luxor and 14 h 15 m to Aswan, so the two sources disagree. Compartments are one-berth or two-berth with dinner served on board.

The flying tours are the 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour, the 10-Day Ultimate Egypt Nile Cruise, the 9-Day Private Egypt Cruise Tour, the 8-Day Private Egypt Nile Cruise Tour, the 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour and the 8-Day Egypt Highlights with Balloon. The 9-Day Egypt Sleeper Train Tour and the 8-Day Egypt Package with Cruise use the sleeper train, and on the 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour both domestic flights cost extra.

7 to 12 Day Luxury Egypt Tours

The long tours join Cairo and Giza to a Nile cruise over a week or more. The table shows the price, the length, whether Abu Simbel is in the base price and the platform rating.

The Grand Tours at a Glance

Abu Simbel sits a 45-minute flight or a 3.5 to 4 hour drive south of Aswan, so it is the feature that most often separates a mid-price tour from a top-price one. Ratings come from each platform's verified reviews and the price is the lowest adult rate per person.

Note how the same 8 or 9 days can carry a $1,500 or a $3,250 tag depending on what the listing folds in.

The Classic Route and Its Legs

Nearly every tour here follows the same line: Cairo and Giza, then south to a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, often finishing with Abu Simbel. The legs are short. Cairo to Luxor is about 670 km on one count, or 637.2 km by road on Rome2Rio, and a flight takes about 3 h 13 m door to door. Luxor to Aswan is about 220 km, or 213.8 km by road, with the train at about 3 h 30 m. Esna lies about 55 km south of Luxor and its lock regularly delays cruise ships.

Abu Simbel is the long leg. The road trip from Aswan takes 3.5 to 4 hours each way, and standard group tours leave Aswan at about 4:00 because the desert highway closes to tourists from 17:00 to 5:00. A flight from Aswan takes about 45 minutes. On the 4-Day Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel the Abu Simbel pickup is at 4:15 AM on day 3.

Who Each Price Level Suits

At the bottom, the 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour is $1,500 but leaves out the Cairo hotel and both domestic flights, so the real total is higher. Around $1,800 sit the pick, the 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour, and the 8-Day Egypt Highlights with Balloon at $1,808, which adds a Luxor balloon ride, a Hurghada snorkel day and Alexandria.

In the middle, the 9-Day Private Egypt Cruise Tour at $2,300 and the 8-Day Egypt Package with Cruise at $2,200, a sleeper-train package with conflicting cancellation terms. The 9-Day Egypt Sleeper Train Tour at $3,200 suits travelers happy in a group of up to 18 who want named 5-star hotels, a felucca night and beach days in Hurghada instead of a cruise. Private with 4 cruise nights: the 8-Day Private Egypt Nile Cruise Tour at $3,250 and the 10-Day Ultimate Egypt Nile Cruise at $4,700. At the top, the 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour runs $6,527 for 11 nights of 5-star stays, 30 entrance fees, domestic flights and Abu Simbel, with all sales final.

Luxury Nile Cruises and a Private Cairo Stay

Cruise-only trips and a Cairo stay, from $441 for three Cairo days to $2,500 for an ultra deluxe ship. This is where the two cruise formats meet. Every Nile cruise format is compared on Nile river cruise, and the sailing boats on dahabiya Nile cruise.

Ship or Dahabiya, the Prices Side by Side

The choice is between a large 5-star cruise ship and a dahabiya, a shallow-bottomed sailing boat with two or more sails. More than 300 cruise ships sail the Nile, and today's dahabiyas have no propeller and are towed by diesel tugboats with a generator on board. Ratings come from each platform's verified reviews.

Direction matters too: four of the cruises sail Luxor to Aswan, and only the 4-day dahabiya runs the other way, from Aswan.

5-Star Ship or Dahabiya Under Sail

The 5-star ship format is the 5-Day Ultra Deluxe Nile Cruise at $2,500, a private 4-night cruise on full board with a private balcony, an Egyptologist and entry fees, and the 4-Day Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel at $690, a shared cruise for up to 18 with a cabin with its own bathroom. The 5-Day Luxury Nile Cruise Luxor-Aswan at $1,900 has a private Egyptologist but never names the ship, the nights or the entrance fees, and all sales are final, so read it carefully before paying.

The dahabiya format is the 5-Day Dahabiya Nile Cruise at $1,750, four nights on a 5-star dahabiya with entrance fees between Aswan and Luxor included, and the 4-Day Luxury Dahabiya Cruise at $1,100, three nights from Aswan with a swim stop in the Nile and all meals from lunch on day 1.

Cairo Only: The 3-Day Private Stay

The 3-Day Private Cairo Pyramids Tour at $441 is for travelers who book the Nile cruise separately. Three private days cover the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, Saqqara, Memphis, Dahshur, the museums, the Citadel and Old Cairo, with 3 lunches at local restaurants and a private vehicle and guide.

What it leaves out is the point: no hotel, no cruise, no flights, and entry to the inside of the pyramids is not covered. It carries 5.0 from 8 reviews, a small count, and lets you reserve now and pay later.

The Classic Luxury Egypt Route, Stop by Stop

Every Egypt tour sees the same monuments. What differs is the guide beside you, the hour you arrive and the ticket already paid for. The big sites each have a page: the pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel.

What a Luxury Egypt Tour Includes

The price gap between a $690 cruise and a $6,527 grand tour comes down to checkable items. This table reads each catalog listing's own record, so you can see what each dollar buys before you book.

The Seven Items That Separate the Prices

Each row below compares listings whose own records state the item. Where a listing is silent, the row says so. Read the table against the tour price and the review count, because a cheap headline can hide the same ticket behind a checkout charge.

What No Tour Price Covers

International flights, the entry visa, tips and drinks sit outside nearly every listing. The visa fee is disputed: the UK FCDO lists US$30 cash on arrival, while a news report says the fee rose to US$45 for on-arrival and e-visa travellers in a recent change. Tipping has the same problem.

One cruise guide suggests US$5 to 10 per person per night for crew, another US$10 to 15 and a third US$10 to 12. For a private guide, figures run from EGP 250 to 500 a day to US$30 to 50 a day, so budget a range rather than one number. Small US dollar bills suit crew and guides, since coins cannot be exchanged locally.

  • International flights: excluded on every grand tour in the catalog
  • Visa: US$30 on arrival per the UK FCDO, US$45 per a later news report, budget for either
  • Cruise crew tips: US$5 to 10 or US$10 to 15 per person per night depending on the guide
  • Private guide tips: EGP 250 to 500 a day or US$30 to 50 a day depending on the guide
  • Drinks: 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour includes bottled water during sightseeing only

The Fine Print Worth Reading Twice

Three details change the real total. First, 10-Day Ultimate Egypt Nile Cruise carries $25 of extra charges at checkout on top of the $4,700 price, and the listing does not explain them. Second, cancellation is strict on three listings: 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour, 8-Day Egypt Package with Cruise and 5-Day Luxury Nile Cruise Luxor-Aswan are all final sales with no refund.

Third, 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour quotes $1,500 but leaves out the Cairo hotel and both domestic flights, which the operator can add for an unstated cost.

5-Star Ship or Dahabiya: Choosing the Nile Cruise

The cruise is the spine of a luxury Egypt tour, and the choice of boat shapes the whole week. Here is what the route, the dahabiya and the modern ship each offer, with the figures from the listings.

The Route in Figures

Cruises run between Luxor and Aswan, a stretch the sources put at about 220 km or 213.8 km by road, calling at Edfu and Kom Ombo. The Esna lock, about 55 km south of Luxor, regularly delays cruise ships, and its schedule can shift with the weekly timetable set by the Ministry of Tourism. From April to mid-October the locks close for water management, so boats transfer passengers between vessels at the barrier.

The preferred sailing season is October to February, when Luxor highs sit near 22.8 to 25.4 C instead of the 41 C summer average.

  • Luxor to Aswan: about 220 km by river, 213.8 km by road
  • Esna lock: 55 km south of Luxor, a regular source of delays
  • Locks closed April to mid-October, with boat transfers at Esna
  • Sailing season: October to February, when Luxor averages 22.8 to 25.4 C

The Dahabiya: Sail Before Steam

A dahabiya is a shallow-bottomed river boat with two or more sails, and it was the standard Nile tourist boat until the 1870s, when Thomas Cook's steamboats took over. Today's dahabiyas carry no propeller and are towed by diesel tugboats when the wind drops, with a generator on board. The format trades speed for quiet water and small numbers. 5-Day Dahabiya Nile Cruise gives 4 nights on a 5-star dahabiya at $1,750 with entrance fees and an Egyptologist. 4-Day Luxury Dahabiya Cruise runs the other way, Aswan to Luxor, with 3 nights, a Nile swim stop and water and hot drinks on board.

The 5-Star Ship, and the Longer Water Nobody Here Sails

The modern cruise ship is the other top format, and the catalog compares three levels of it. 5-Day Ultra Deluxe Nile Cruise is the top of the range, 4 nights full board on an ultra-deluxe 5-star ship with a private balcony and a private Egyptologist at $2,500. 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour puts 3 nights on a 5-star deluxe ship inside a full tour at $1,800. 4-Day Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel is the floor at $690, shared group, cabin with its own bathroom, Abu Simbel by road with pickup at 4:15 AM. Beyond Aswan lies Lake Nasser, 550 km long or 500 km depending on the source, up to 35 km wide, and some longer cruises continue onto it to reach Abu Simbel by water. No catalog tour uses that route, so a lake cruise means booking outside this comparison.

Best Time for a Luxury Egypt Tour

Timing changes what a luxury Egypt tour feels like. The monthly highs below come from published climate averages for Cairo and Luxor, and they shape cruise schedules, balloon flights and desert drives. Month by month figures are on the best time to visit Egypt, and the flights over the West Bank on Luxor hot air balloon.

Season by Season, With the Numbers

Winter is the mildest season and the main one for Nile cruising, with cruise guidance naming October to February as the preferred sailing season. Spring warms fast and carries the khamsin sandstorms, which usually arrive in April but can occur from March to May and can raise temperatures by up to 20 C in two hours with winds up to 140 km/h. Summer pushes Luxor highs above 41 C, and Aswan runs even hotter at a record 51 C. Autumn cools again and opens the balloon season.

The Abu Simbel sun reaches the inner sanctuary on 22 October and 22 February, when the ministry price list shows a special alignment ticket of EGP 1,200 for foreign adults against the normal EGP 750.

SeasonCairo highLuxor highWatch for

Summer (June to August)34.7-35.1 C41.3-41.5 CExtreme heat, early starts essential
Autumn (September to November)25-33.5 C29.2-39.4 CBalloon season opens in October

Ramadan

Ramadan in 2027 is estimated to run from 8 February to 8 March. One visitor guide says Grand Egyptian Museum gallery hours shorten to 9:00 to 16:00 during Ramadan. For a tour this means planning museum time in the morning and confirming that cruise and restaurant service runs as usual.

Itineraries generally continue, but check the details before booking a fixed-date cruise such as the 5-Day Ultra Deluxe Nile Cruise.

Which Is the Best Month to Visit Egypt?

October to March suits most travellers, because Cairo highs stay between 19 and 25 C from November to February and that window carries the preferred Nile cruise season. If a balloon flight over Luxor is the point of your trip, October to April is the named flying season, which points at late autumn above all. Summer is the hard season: Luxor and Aswan average above 41 C from June to August, so a summer tour means temple visits at dawn and the afternoon on the boat.

Pick February for the Abu Simbel sun alignment on 22 February, or late October for the 22 October one.

Visas, Money and Safety on a Luxury Egypt Tour

The practical side of a tour is where small print matters most. Here is what the official guidance and the listings say. The advisories and risks in full are on is it safe to travel to Egypt.

Entry and Visa

The UK FCDO says your passport must be valid at least 6 months after arrival and contain a blank page. Sources disagree on the fee: the FCDO lists an on-arrival visa at US$30 in cash, while a Gulf News report says the fee rose to US$45 for on-arrival and e-visa travellers. The on-arrival visa is valid up to 30 days and the e-visa up to 3 months.

The FCDO also warns that airport agents who sell visas charge more than official rates, so buy at the official desk or apply online. One listing, the 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour, lists the entry visa as not included.

Money and Tipping

Egypt's currency is the Egyptian pound (EGP), divided into 100 piastres. The FCDO says no more than EGP 5,000 may be taken in or out of Egypt, and foreign currency above US$10,000 must be declared on arrival. A tipping guide uses an exchange rate of about EGP 50 to the US dollar, and the pound traded above 40 per dollar.

Small US dollar bills suit cruise crew and guides because coins cannot be exchanged locally. One practical warning from a visitor guide: the Abu Simbel ticket booth takes cards only, so carry a card for that EGP 750 ticket. Tips are excluded from most catalog tours, including the pick.

Safety

The UK FCDO advises against all travel to North Sinai Governorate and to within 20 km of the Libyan border, except the town of El Salloum. It advises against all but essential travel to most of the Western Desert, but explicitly excepts tourist destinations including Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel. It also says travel insurance may be invalid if you travel against FCDO advice.

About one million British people visit Egypt each year, and the classic Cairo to Nile cruise route sits outside the advised-against zones.

Dress and Photography

Visitors to mosques should cover shoulders and legs and carry a scarf, as women may be asked to cover their hair, and shoes usually come off in prayer areas. Photography has its own rules. A Valley of the Kings guide says a camera pass costs EGP 300 for three tombs, and DSLRs are forbidden in the Tutankhamun and Seti I tombs.

The FCDO says drones are illegal without Ministry of Defence permission, with penalties up to 7 years in prison or fines of EGP 5,000 to 50,000, and that military sites including the Suez Canal must not be photographed.

Before You Book a Luxury Egypt Tour

Do

  • Do read what the price actually includes before comparing headline figures, because the 7-Day Private Egyptologist Tour costs $1,500 but leaves out the Cairo hotel and both domestic flights.
  • Do check the cancellation terms, because three listings including the 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour are all sales final with no refund, while others give 24 hours free cancellation.
  • Do carry a card and small US dollar bills, because the Abu Simbel ticket booth takes cards only and small dollar bills are the practical tip for cruise crew.
  • Do book a balloon tour between October and April, because a balloon guide names those months as the flying season and flights stop in strong wind.
  • Do check the visa fee before you fly, because sources disagree between US$30 on arrival and US$45 for on-arrival and e-visa travellers.

Don't

  • Don't assume every private tour includes a 5-star hotel, because the 9-Day Private Egypt Cruise Tour uses a 4-star Cairo hotel and charges extra to upgrade the cruise ship.
  • Don't count on the Abu Simbel sun alignment without budgeting for it, because the special 22 October and 22 February ticket is EGP 1,200 against the normal EGP 750.
  • Don't book a shared cruise if a guide matters to you, because the lowest-priced cruise at $690 is shared with up to 18 people while the private listings carry an Egyptologist.
  • Don't photograph military sites, police or children, because the FCDO says photographing children is banned and the Suez Canal must not be photographed.
  • Don't pack a drone, because flying one without Ministry of Defence permission is illegal with up to 7 years in prison or fines of EGP 5,000 to 50,000.

Luxury Egypt Tours: Your Questions

Is travelling to Egypt expensive?

A luxury private tour runs from $441 for a 3-day Cairo stay to $6,527 for a 12-day all-inclusive trip, so the range is wide. Monument tickets are modest by comparison, with the ministry price list showing the Giza plateau at EGP 700 and the Valley of the Kings at EGP 750 for foreign adults. See the catalog for the full price spread.

What is the most luxurious Nile cruise?

This site compares listings rather than ranking every ship on the river, and the two top formats in the catalog are a private cruise on an ultra-deluxe 5-star ship and a dahabiya under sail. The 5-Day Ultra Deluxe Nile Cruise costs $2,500 with a private Egyptologist and entry fees, while the 5-Day Dahabiya Nile Cruise costs $1,750 for four nights on a 5-star dahabiya.

Who are the top tour operators in Egypt?

This site does not rank companies, and no official league table exists. The honest way to judge a listing is its verified rating and review count, what the price includes, and how strict the cancellation is. The 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour holds 4.9 from 285 reviews with entrance fees and both domestic flights included, which says more than any brand name.

How many days do you need for Egypt?

The catalog runs from 3 to 12 days. Three days covers Cairo and Giza only, and the 3-Day Private Cairo Pyramids Tour is the example at $441. Eight days is the most common length for Cairo plus a Nile cruise, and the 12-day tours add Fayoum and Alexandria.

Are flights included in a luxury Egypt tour?

Domestic flights often are, but international flights almost never are. The 8-Day Private Egypt Nile Cruise Tour includes flights from Cairo to Aswan and Luxor to Cairo, while the 3-Day Private Cairo Pyramids Tour needs no flights at all. Always read the inclusions line.

Can I book a private Egypt tour with an Egyptologist?

Yes, most catalog listings name a private Egyptologist guide. The 8-Day Cairo Aswan Luxor Private Tour includes an English-speaking professional Egyptologist with a private group, and the 12-day flagship adds a travel consultant escort from a US office alongside the local Egyptologist. Check the guide line on each listing, because one 3-day Cairo listing states only a private tour guide.

Is it worth flying to Abu Simbel?

Abu Simbel has 20 m colossi of Ramesses II, and the question is how you get there. The road from Aswan takes 3.5 to 4 hours each way with group departures around 4:00, while a flight takes about 45 minutes. Some tours include the visit outright, such as the 12-Day Luxury Egypt Nile Tour and the 4-Day Nile Cruise with Abu Simbel.

Should I bring toilet paper to Egypt?

Yes, carry a small pack and some coins or small notes. Hotels and the cruise ships are stocked, but toilets at temples and roadside stops on the way to Abu Simbel often are not, and an attendant may hand out paper for a small tip. Small US dollar bills and EGP notes also cover the tips listed in what a luxury Egypt tour includes.

The pick: 8 private days, domestic flights and 3 nights on a 5-star deluxe Nile ship for $1,800.
